Our team has tackled issues such as strategy development, optimising organisations, market entry, federation incubation, influencing public policy and digital health optimisation.
Examples of our recent client work include the following:
The incubation and implementation of the Africa Public Health Foundation
Impact: The Foundation facilitates interactions with the private and philanthropic sectors to support Africa CDC’s mission to safeguard the continent. The registration of APHF is the first step in a series of activities to encourage philanthropic and private sector engagement with Africa CDC.
Establishment of the private healthcare federation for Liberia
Impact: Unified the private health sector in Liberia which resulted in a private health sector membership organisation called the Healthcare Federation of Liberia. The federation currently consists of 35 paid members. With guidance from AHB the federation has been able to set up an institutionalised PPD mechanism with the Liberian Ministry of Health called the Ministerial Stakeholder Forum.
Unlocking a health solutions company’s market potential for Africa
Impact: AHB was able to expand the network of a digital health data and analytics firm, allowing the company to reach key stakeholders in the healthcare space – boosting the uptake of its suite of digital solutions aimed at creating more visibility of the COVID-19 outbreak and pressure points.
Landscape analysis for a European DFI
Impact: Key challenges and opportunities were identified and key focus areas for potential investments were defined. This enabled the DFI to identify opportunities for investing in the continent’s healthcare sector; focused on the financial return as well as also on their own organisational objectives as an investor.
Venture advisory services for East African health innovators
Impact: Over the past two years AHB has been providing venture advisory services for a varied cohort of 20 health innovators in East Africa. The advisory support has been focussed on transitioning the innovation to a sustainable business model by increasing the innovators linkages and networks, marketing strategies and overall business management skills. In the year 2020, the advisory support focussed on public sector scaling. AHB facilitated a targeted breakfast workshop for an innovator with 30 decision makers that manage private hospitals in Kenya. The workshop focused on a particular health-related topic and via the workshop the client was able to link up with 30 private hospitals and secure contracts with providers to take up the particular solution that the client offered.
